Richard Gere's father has volunteered for Meals on Wheels, which began in Philadelphia in 1954, for almost twenty years. The program was the first home-delivery meal program in America. Supporting the cause, which is obviously close to his father's heart, Gere became a spokesman for Meals on Wheels, and in 2007, appeared in the charity's first-ever advertising campaign with his father.

I was researching Philadelphia-born celebrities for this article, and to my surprise (and delight), I learned that Richard Gere was born right here, in the City of Brotherly Love. I did some digging to see if Mr. Gere was the charitable type, and I was happy and relieved to discover that he is, indeed, a generous gentleman.
